Whiskey Two Four's Shoulder Pad 21 spreads the load across a larger surface area. Rather than thin, stiff foam; we opted for thicker, spongier, foam that doesn't retain water. The foam conforms well and offers enough cushion to smooth out gear lumps against the body. Shoulder Pad 21 attaches to the underside of shoulder straps with hook and loop.
500D nylon abrades clothing. Most air mesh/spacer mesh/3D mesh is polyester and quickly pills when abraded. Spacer mesh also collects vegetation, debris, and moisture which, in cold climates, may crystalize into ice. We chose a 4 way stretch nylon fabric to contact the human body. It's smooth against skin and clothing, it's breathable, it wears well, and it won't collect debris.
Hook and loop closures offer quick and easy organization and routing of hydro, air, and commo lines.
